Hi Everyone,
Understandably, often we get the question: "How do I add a Sign-in Box on home page, like the Ning Directory?", or "How do I put my Sign-In Box on the home page?"

You can't, at least not from any instructions this site can provide to you. Sorry about that. But, this has gotten too complicated, and risking the possibility of breaking Ning's TOS, with the Security issues. See below.

Why?
The Sign-In Box you see on the Ning Directory is accomplished by using a script from the former Scripts4Ning (S4N) 3rd party subscription service. Ning took over the maintenance of these scripts, and no longer enable the scripts for new members, period. This is per Ning. Ning stated, they would add a lot of these awesome scripts to all Ning Networks, over time. However, Ning did not commit to which scripts, or when.

On the Sign-In Box, Ning has specifically stated (for now), they will NOT be adding the Sign-In Box on home page, due to Security Reasons. See comment here:
Statement about Security - by Ning's Product Manager

See discussions about possible solutions here: Be advised Ning will not support this feature, even if you figure it out.

<script language="JavaScript" src="http://pentiger.com/js/free_pentiger_scripts.js"></script>

this goes into your analytics box and will give you the front page login

If, in the future this stops working because ning changes something just delete the line from analytics.

Thant's it.
I appreciate the post Polamtravel. And I think it will make some folks very happy - - thank you for that.

But, I do want members to know, it appears to me, based on Evan's (Ning Product Manager) comments, Ning does not want the sign-in box on home page, due to Security issues. If I didn't own the Ning Directory, and didn't have the script from S4N, I would probably use your code. ;-)

But, since I run a site that represents and promotes many Ning Network Owners, I kinda can't promote code that Ning doesn't bless, if that makes sense.

Thanks again,
Jen
It's basically the same code as s4n, I used to make scripts with Vince when s4n was created.

Peter
Hi Peter,
I know this, and feel certain your code is great. I just say what I do, so I'm going along with what Ning wants. I do this because I represent so many Ning Networks. I hope that makes sense.

Here's a good example of when I might utilize code like you've provided: if I was customizing a site for an individual client. But, when giving out free tips to many, I feel like I have to follow the concerns of Ning, very carefully.
Best Regards,
Jen
